TRAINING FOR BPI CERTIFICATION

Course Types:

The Building Performance Workshop trains professionals in the home performance contracting industry to the highest standards of excellence. Every Building Performance Workshop holistic training program is designed to help home performance professionals gain the advanced knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the industry of high performance homes and weatherization. Trainees are taught to understand the inner workings of building science and diagnostic tools, and are optionally prepared to challenge BPI written and field exams to be certified by Building Performance Institute (BPI).

Our multi-day trainings are 100% HANDS-ON, with no online components. Your hourly rate for this breaks down to around $30 per hour, compared to almost $60 per hour with the traveling circus trainers, who all make you learn from your glaring computer screen for a big part of their classes.

6-Day Hands-On Intensive

Candidates are trained in Home Performance, with a comprehensive overview of the building science, client psychology, and fundamental approaches developed by founder Corbett Lunsford. Many experienced professionals, HERS Raters, architects and engineers have attended the 6-Day Intensive, so it is by no means a 'basic level' course. Corbett talks fast, and keeps the class continually energized.

3-Day Hands-On Intensive

For professionals who are already HERS or BPI Certified, the 3-Day Intensive is your chance to expand your skills with BPW founder Corbett Lunsford. One site visit is included, along with HVAC, airsealing, and insulation diagnostic techniques.

BPI Certification Exams

You have the option to challenge BPI certification exams IN ANY BPI SPECIALTY OF YOUR CHOICE:

• Building Analyst Professional
• Envelope Professional
• Heating Professional
• A/C & Heat Pump Professional
• Multifamily Building Analyst Professional

If exams are purchased in conjunction with a 6-Day or 3-Day Training, a one-hour BPI Exam Prep Session is included at the end of every day of training. The Building Performance Workshop is the ONLY BPI TRAINING AFFILIATE IN THE COUNTRY to offer this breadth of training in this format.

3 Day Advanced Courses (Specialty or Multifamily)

BPI Advanced trainings are held regularly to prepare candidates to challenge exams for the certifications listed above, by attending the last 3 days of a 6 Day Course. This option is only available to already-certified BPI Professionals or HERS Raters.

The Building Performance Workshop is your chance to learn the trade from full-time practitioners. Participants study with Green Dream Group's ever-energetic lead analyst and trainer, Corbett Lunsford. Corbett is an experienced trainer, presenter, energy auditor, and HERS Rater.  He serves as the Executive Director of the Illinois Association of Energy Raters and Home Performance Professionals, hosts the Building Performance Podcast, and is a Provider Education Partner for USGBC-Illinois.

Scheduled BPI trainings are 3 or 6 days long. There are site visits during each week of the training, for hands-on application of the principles and standards our participants work to master. Books included with the training may include the Building Performance Workshop Manual, Home Performance Diagnostics: the Guide to Advanced Testing, the Energy Auditor Field Guide, Bruce Harley's How to Insulate and Weatherize, and a guide to the specialty of your choice (HVAC, multifamily, envelope).
